Frequently Asked Questions

How will hiring you affect my partner’s role during the birth?

I will never take over, replace, or exclude your birth partner. Instead, I will support you and your birth partner throughout labor. Having a doula allows the birth partner or the laboring persons support people to enjoy the whole birth process by lifting them from sole responsibility during labor. I will help them by giving them ideas on how to support the laboring person from beginning to end, and I will keep them informed and help them to feel calm. Sometimes partners like to take breaks and sometimes they like to stay by the birthing person's side. I will be a guide for your partner during the labor experience.

Do you perform any physical examinations?

A doula is not a medical provider and therefore does not perform physical examinations. If you are having issues or medical issues, I can help by providing resources or contact medical support for you. I work only for my client, not the caregiver, hospital, or birth center. I will only provide non-medical labor support. I will respect and maintain your privacy by following HIPPA guidelines.

What are your interactions with medical staff like?

As a Doula, I will work as a team with your medical staff. I do not work for your medical staff. The nurse and doctor/midwife can focus on your medical needs while I assist you with comfort measures, encouragement, helpful suggestions, advocate for you, and provide you with informations so you can make informed decisions.

Why should I hire a Doula?

People who have Doula's have shorter labors by an average of 98 minutes.

You are 36% less likely to need an epidural or another form of analgesia, and 60% reduction in epidural requests.

51% less likely to have a c-section.

57% less likely to need forceps delivery.

71% less likely to be induced (receive Pitocin (Oxytocin))

A Doula is by your side and available for you during your entire labor.

Mothers tend to be more satisfied with their birth experience.

Doulas can be a key support person for the laboring persons birth partner as well.

Doulas respect your choice for the birth that you desire.

Doulas encourage you and remind you what your desires and needs are.

My goal as your doula is to fully inform you of your choices and your body's ability to have a baby, and to support your partner/give them the freedom to be with you. I will also offer comfort and emotional/physical support for you throughout your labor and birth.

I will be your advocate and do everything in my power to see that you get the birth that you desire and that your birth plan is respected and followed during your labor and birth.
