Frequently Asked Questions
How will hiring you affect my partner’s role during the birth?
I will never take over, replace, or exclude your birth partner. Instead, I will support you and your birth partner throughout labor. Having a doula allows the birth partner or the laboring persons support people to enjoy the whole birth process by lifting them from sole responsibility during labor. I will help them by giving them ideas on how to support the laboring person from beginning to end, and I will keep them informed and help them to feel calm. Sometimes partners like to take breaks and sometimes they like to stay by the birthing person's side. I will be a guide for your partner during the labor experience.
Do you perform any physical examinations?
A doula is not a medical provider and therefore does not perform physical examinations. If you are having issues or medical issues, I can help by providing resources or contact medical support for you. I work only for my client, not the caregiver, hospital, or birth center. I will only provide non-medical labor support. I will respect and maintain your privacy by following HIPPA guidelines.
What are your interactions with medical staff like?
As a Doula, I will work as a team with your medical staff. I do not work for your medical staff. The nurse and doctor/midwife can focus on your medical needs while I assist you with comfort measures, encouragement, helpful suggestions, advocate for you, and provide you with informations so you can make informed decisions.
